Wooden Sign Makeover

Wooden Sign Makeover

Ok. Another love to add to my “crazy~abouts”: Signs. Any kind. (sigh)

I’ve bought this wooden sign long long time ago in Canada, on one of my yardsale tours. Oh Yardsales! Miss ya. And I could kick myself for not getting the pair, cause they came by two, but silly me thought: naa. why two? WHAT was I thinking. Two is always better. I was clearly out of my mind.

Ok, so I hadn’t done anything to the sign so far, it was an Autumn sign and pretty cute actually.

But I want to have it for longer now than just for the fall season. I want it all year around!

So come and see what a little bit of white paint and my super metallic markers could do!

I didn’t even have to sand it, i just painted over and not evenly at all. It came out really distressed and lovely with the black still peeking out here and there.

After the paint had dried, I decided to write the word “HOLA” on it, meaning “HALLO” in Spanish. On picmonkey I wrote the word down in my favourite font. Now, I just copied it by looking at the letters and writing them first with pencil and then with metallic marker. But if you prefer, you can use THIS method of getting the letters onto your piece.

I then drew a little frame around the leaf part and that’s about it! I put it on my stairway, leaning against the wall and I love it!

[…] Starting with the wooden “HOLA” sign, it found it’s spot right there, walking up the first steps, just leaning against the wall. It’s quite heavy so I thought that corner was perfect for it. Find out how I transformed it HERE !  […]

The before was cute, but I agree that having something you can have out year round is better. Love the gold! Thank you for sharing at Merry Monday!

I like it much more now, and as you say, you can use it all year long. Are yard sales the same as garage sales?

I like the distressed look too! I have never used metallic paint pens, but it looks like they are easy to use.

Oooh what are yard sales??? Sounds like we should have those! Are they like car boot sales? This looks brilliant – I love pic monkey for font ideas. I never think of buying things like this to paint but it’s such a great idea. Thanks so much for sharing x

Oh Hi Natalie, thanks so much for stopping by, I’m so happy! Yard sales are like private sales, who ever wants to, does from their home front yard or garage (garage sales). They were huge in Canada. I loved them, you could find cool stuff! I guess car boot sales are like flea markets? Everyone gets together somewhere, puts up their stands kinda thing?

So Simple yet so elegant!! Love it. So you do not have yard sales in Spain – well neither do we here and I miss them so. I used to go every weekend. and find lots of goodies, now I feel like I am deprived.

I know, hey? I miss them too! Sometimes there are, because of the American Naval Base here…but very few. Thanks for coming by!!
