Stencilled Place Mat turned into Wall Decor

The other day….I took my daughter swimming, and while I could’ve perfectly just sat down in the cafeteria outside the pool waiting for her, sipping a coffee maybe… relaxing a bit, you know… I instead decided to use those 45 minutes to run to the nearby grocery store to grab some bread and snacks for the next day. I walked into the store and realized [I think I even made a strange noise of excitement] they had set up a new Euro section! I forgot all about my little grocery list instantly! 45 minutes went by too fast and I had to dash back to get my kid out of the pool and showered so I ended up with only a few things… no bread or snacks though. So, today let me show you what I’ve done with one of those 1Euro treasures: A stencilled place mat turned into wall decor!

What this is supposed to be, I have no idea of…. I guess it could have several purposes, a place mat, a coaster to protect the table? Who cares, it doesn’t matter, I love it as is and just wanted to add a little Katrin touch to it… And I noticed that loop on the side, which to me looked perfect to make a wall decor piece out of this!

Out came my Lotta Jansdotter Stencils and a white marker!

I love how uneven it turned out, but how you can still make out the stencils! I think it took me like 5 minutes to make this fun wall decor from a place mat or what ever it was meant to be! It can still be one, one day I might just take it down and put it on the table and put a plant on it or an antler or something. You never know.

I am looking at way to decorate a very plain privacy wall outside. I think this would work. I think it would survive rain and outdoor weather really well if it was attached securely to the wall.

You gave me something to think about. Thanks for the inspiration Katrin.

Katrin, this is so simple but so pretty. I love how the woven texture goes with your decor. And I also love the imperfectness of the stencil, it gives it such a lovely character.

Katrin, that’s so funny that you went into the store for snacks and came out with project pieces instead. What a fun upcycle you gave this mat! I love the stencil you applied to it. It looks great as wall art but you’re right you can always use it as a mat still or probably a dozen other uses; you’re clever like that. Thanks so much for mentioning my stencils!!

Aw thanks so much friend! I haven’t used these stencils in a long time and when I saw all of your beauties I remembered these and it’s great to add a little something to an otherwise boring piece. and it was so easy, that’s what I need lately!

How gorgeous Katrin. I’m always amazed at the difference a stencil can make and change something so ordinary into something so lovely. I would never have looked twice at the place mat aka coaster thingy, but you always see beauty in things.

Katrin you have ethe best euro shop. I only find crappy things in mine. A genius idea once again. The texture along with the pattern you have created make it look like wall art. Sometimes we can put the most unexpected things on the wall and they look better than traditional framed out art.

Thank you Mary, I was pretty surprised when I saw that little euro section and they do have cute things! Just what I needed right around the corner, lol!

    Hello Katrin,
one needn’t spend lots of money to get something nice. And it easier to give these things your personal “special touch” when they didn’t 😉
    Have a lovely day,
