Mid Century Style Sewing Basket Side Table

Hi there! I just wanted to say Hi real quick and share this cute mid century style sewing basket side table with y’all! I am so happy about how this turned out and couldn’t wait to share it on the blog. So the other day at the flea market I literally stumbled over this sewing basket stand and then all my creative cables tangled up, lol, and well it ended up in my trunk. I paid €7 for it, not sure if that is a lot or not. See, these mid century style legs are what caught my eye and the wicker parts too.

We have these two loungers in our back, you know, to sunbathe and relax, and I was looking for a tiny table to put in between them. Because every time I we lay on the loungers and have a drink or snack, our bunnies get in there too and just knock over what ever gets in their way, haha. So I was planning on a side table for the spot, but most of the ones I saw were really high. Except for this sewing basket stand! Perfect height! And bunny proof!

All I needed for this transformation was a can of spray-primer and a can of spray-paint. Both white. I used primer just to be on the safe side.

I started by cleaning it and then removing the top and also the ribbon around it.

Then I applied my primer and after that, I started spray painting. This couldn’t have been any easier!

The power of spray paint y’all! It amazes me each and every time, how things I wouldn’t normally choose for my decor, become interesting and unique pieces I love!

Just like this little side table now… here it is sitting outside, holding a cute plant and fresh drinks! And the bunnies don’t even care!

One of them had to show up of course. I swear she was looking at me like that the whole time I was taking the photos, lol!

Katrin this is such a smart repurpose of a sewing basket. It looks like it belongs outside in the patio hanging out with those cool chairs.

That’s such a brilliant idea Katrin. I don’t think I would have even looked twice at the old sewing basket if I had to trip over it, but that would have been before I saw what you did with yours. So clever

Thanks Michelle, you know if I hadn’t tripped… but now I’m so happy I took it home with me…

Brilliant, when I first saw this I thought you’d added a glass top but this is even simpler. It looks perfect in this space.

It looks fantastic! I think you got a great deal…I love everything mid century modern! The white looks spectacular. I like the idea above of finding a container to use as an ice bucket, but I also think it would be great with a glass top and used as a side table. So many possibilities.

Thank you Marissa, I love the glass table top idea, I think it would look great and then putting some small plants underneath…or shells & rocks.. ah now to find a glass top!!

Super cute! It would be fun to find a container that would fit inside and use it as an ice bucket too!
