20 In Summer

Ikea Bookshelf turned Pool Station

I’m so happy this Ikea bookshelf turned pool station is finally done! The shelf has been standing in the heat for a few weeks and I just couldn’t get myself to finish it. Even though, all it really needed was some paint and decoration, nothing major. Oh well, it is up now and it looks great I think. Not only that, but it’s useful and practical at the same time. Big score in my book!

Ikea Bookshelf turned Pool Station

This is how it looked when I took it out of my daugher’s bedroom. She needed a bigger bookshelf and a while back, we bought her a new desk and bed in white so this look didn’t fit in with the rest anymore anyways.

But I didn’t want to just toss it out, I knew I needed storage on our back patio. So I figured, I paint it quickly, really just with the dry brush technique to make it look a little weathered and not so much like an indoor shelf.

And that’s all I really did. Using chalky finish paint, I gave it a refresh and I think it looks great this way. For outside anyways. I added plastic bins from the dollar store that I had in store but no longer needed. For this outside shelf they work perfectly, since they can get wet from the pool stuff and are easy to keep clean.

I left the bins without labels on purpose, I might want to use them for something different in the winter, and I kinda think this shelf has enough going on with all the different colored towels….

I like how I can have all of the pool stuff like towels and goggles and sun lotion stored in one place and have it look pretty at the same time!

The little bit of white paint was all this shelf needed. So nice to have beside the pool and the plastic containers for the towels is very organized. Where I came from there are lots of private outdoor pools and they are a highlight of summer. Enjoy Katrin.

Katrin I love that soft white wash look. Why it looks fresh and new with the paint. And I’m happy that you got to reuse it as storage for your outdoors. I see the cute pool sign too.

Great simple makeover. It is nice to use what you have.
Of course here in the UK we don’t really have outdoor pools, we maybe have 5 days per year when they would get used.
We have little paddling pools for toddlers as they are quick to put out for those few precious really hot days!

Hi Julie, yes, it is like that in Germany too. No real need for a pool. Well, it could always work as a patio shelf or potting shelf, with lots of plants on it maybe! Thanks for stopping by 😉

Kreative and klever yet again! I bet that is one happy bookshelf to find itself being really needed in a new life. Great idea using bins to keep everything organized. I can’t wait to see the new home for the bookshelf on the back patio. Thank-you!

Excellent use for the IKEA Bookshelf and it certainly doesn’t look IKEA anymore! Love the pool sign too. Now all I need is a pool…oh what I’d do for a pool…or a warmer climate that justifies having a pool. lol

hahaha, you’re so funny! The pool sign is up, the pool station is up, lol, but I’m missing the pool too!!! We always put up a big above ground pool and it’s great fun, but this year, since we’re going to Canada in July, we’ll put it up in August. It’s quite a lot of upkeep…but it’ll be hot here til October, so that will work…
