Going Green – Easy Ikea Lantern Makeover

Happy Monday! It’s a long weekend for and it is also the last Monday of the month, so that means it’s Int’l Bloggers Club time! I’m popping in real quick to show you this easy Ikea lantern makeover, because this month we talk about all things “garden”. Last month was so much fun, we all made something using fabric, find more about that here.

I have had this Ikea lantern for quite some time now and I love it in white. But this season I am really into all things green and want to add some pops of green to my outdoor decor especially. The other day I showed you my green potting station already. I also couldn’t help but painting my bistro chairs green, see my front porch all ready for Spring here. I think it is such a fun green and makes for a really nice summer vibe.

What I have used:

Ikea lantern or similar

Montana Spray Paint MTN 94 Green Breeze [this one looks similar]

Spray Primer

Start by carefully taking all the glass sides out of the lantern. Put aside.

My lantern will be outside and just to be safe, I used a primer. You could probably do it without, but that’s up to you.

Start with the primer following the safety and application instructions on the can. Let dry.

Now start spray painting also following the safety and application instructions on the can. Let dry and add more coats if desired. I used the entire can for this lantern, as I wanted to have a deep green color. Let dry and sit outside or in a ventilated area overnight.

Put the glass back in it’s place and decorate your lantern!

I’ve put a faux flower inside, but the possibilities are endless, candles, succulents, fairy lights, you name it! I will probably change it around frequently.

That is such a lovely color for spring Katrin. It is like the winter has been cast aside and we are ready to finally enjoy all the green that has come. A very pretty lantern and one that can be used in so many ways.

I love the color you painted the lantern, Katrin, it really pops and is such a fresh color perfect for the garden. I also like the idea of placing flowers in it rather than a candle. Pinned 🙂

Spray paint is one of the best inventions ever, right? Your lantern looks so pretty with that vibrant green! It adds a pop of color to the terrace. It seems that finally we will be able to enjoy time outdoors!

Such an easy makeover, but it makes such a dramatic impact. The best kind 😀 And that green really is such a pretty color, it’s almost a turquoise green, it makes me think of elves and fairies. I’m so looking forward to seeing all the different vignettes you’ll be adding to it. Knowing you they’re all going to be beautiful
