Getting Ready For Fall…

It´s early to think about fall, I mean, it´s not even the middle of August. But, having visited our family in Canada last month, all stores back there had the fall decor up already and Michael’s was just filled to the brim with pretty colorful fall decor! Which I enjoy and love, but I´m also still enjoying summer over here and am not ready to move onto fall decor just yet. It is kind of strange, because by this time, I´m usually dreaming about pumpkins and all. But this year is different.

After 10 years off, and being a SAHM, I went back to work last September and the past year has been quite an experience! So, now I have the summer off, and until the 1st of September that is what it means, summer, and extra time for my family and myself, so I really want to enjoy it to the last bit. I want the summer to feel extra long if you know what I mean.

Maybe by middle of September you will see some fall inspired posts around here. I´m not sure. This year I have plans of incorporating fall in a very simple way into my decor. Very.

getting ready for fall

In the past years, around this date, I ´ve spent my days missing the for me ¨real¨ fall and wanting rainy, cloudy days and all that comes with nordic fall. Don´t get me wrong, it still is my favourite time of year and I just love nordic fall. This year though, I´ve decided not to go there, because that kind of attitude doesn´t get me anywhere. I want to live & enjoy where I am. So, instead, I´ve decided to appreciate this beachy life, even though I´m not much of a beach-go-er. I have decided to embrace the warm and bright days of fall here and admire my always green surroundings and just make the best of it!

[Please remind me of this resolution if you hear me whine in October, ok?] I really will try my best and I might even do a post about how to hygge in the spanish fall or something similar, lol!

I think I will decorate for fall in a simple way, I mean not that I ever go all out on any kind of decor. I always keep it simple. But it won´t be the typical fall decor, let´s say. There will be greens around and I actually went out of my comfort zone the other day and bought chalky paint in a mustard tone! Wow, I totally love it and I can see a lot of that with blues and still a lot of white. Let´s see.

Anyways, I just wanted to share this today with you. I know the blogging world is in total fall mode for a while now already, and don´t get me wrong, that´s great! It´s just not me this time. I want to enjoy the ¨NOW¨ and not have to think of fall posts in August… I might though, but I might not. You never know…

It all depends on where you live. Because let´s face it, if I still lived in Canada or Germany, I would be knee deep into the browns and oranges and all what has always been the ¨real¨ fall for me. Well, it isn´t anymore. The real fall is here now, where I am and it took me a while to appreciate it.

So how about you? Are you ready for fall? What is your ¨real¨ fall like?

Thanks so much for stopping by today, I really appreciate it!

On Monday I´ll be sharing a fun and easy beachy-fall DIY, please come back!

Katrin, that’s a very good attitude to have about enjoying where you are. I look forward to seeing what your fall looks like this year and the mustard color chalk paint. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Thank you Keri. I always tend to wish this and that instead of just appreciating more where I am right now…

Seasons are always sprung on us by retailers, Halloween candy and decor has been out in Rhode Island since July! Now, I’m a lover of all things about Fall – but, we also need to be in the moment and it is far from Fall. We seem to miss the here and now while looking to the future. Your outlook is sound advice for all. Thank-you for an inspiring post!

I so agree Ellen! I also love fall and just had to adjust my vision a little bit because of where I live. Regardless though, July is too early in my humble opinion and I simply don´t like seeing it and feeling like being rushed into it. Oh well, Glad I´m not the only one who thinks this way! Thanks for the visit 🙂

I am not ready for fall ever. For me it means gray and rainy days, and they become shorter and shorter and you can’t spend life outdoors as we do during summer so, sorry, fall will not be part of me ever. But I agree this blogger tendency seems to be aimed to inspire others in stead of enjoying our own life… Have fun!

haha, no, I don´t think I´ve met any Spaniard who loves the fall…here it´s all about summer and slow life, it took me long enough to realize and appreciate it! Well, better late than never, I´m really happy to be able to live where I live, but it´s hard sometimes, when deep down, I´m in the north, lol! But it´s ok you know. Life is good 😉

You know that question has got me thinking. I have always thought of fall as browns, oranges and golds because like you I remember the fall of north America. And that has always been my standard to live up to. That perfect image. Unfortunately here in Greece we don’t really have a fall where I live. Maybe in the mountains we get those beautiful fall colors, but where I am it is all late summer and then we go right into rainy winter. It kind of meanders into the season with no clear cut indications except for that school starts. For me it kind of takes the fun out of celebrating fall.

I guess it us as people who put all these labels on everything. If we were to just let go of the labels and enjoy each day for what it is life would be much simpler and better. Thanks for that reminder Katrin and for your beautiful photography.

I totally agree Mary and it has been like that for me too since like forever! Fall is not really fall here where we are at and it´s ok! Embrace and be happy with what you´ve got right? Well, I try to do that as often as possible…it isn´t always so though.

I’m not into autumn yet at all. No way!!! I’m still in a strawberry mood, craving sunshine an warmth (this year we had summer in Mai and in June and never ever after). When I got up this morning it was grey outside, foggy and raining, 12°C. It felt like fall and I felt like screaming (actually I felt like turning round, closing the bathroom door behind me and snuggling back into bed)! We do live in the Eifel – but there really is NO need for this!
Oh, I could do with a week or two full of sunshine, 25°C, maybe just one other swim in our garden pool. Autumn is my favourite when it comes to colours: all those warm, earthy brown shades, greens to indulge oneself in, honey-coloured yellow, soft and bright organge-tones, a playful dab of fiery red – I LOVE them but I’m not ready for them yet!
So, when it’s up to me: you’re in no hurry for any autumn-decor!
Enjoy the beach, the sunshine and each and every breath you take!

Oh…ich vermisse deutschen Herbst schon ein wenig… It sure feels like fall at 12 degrees… I love fall and miss the german fall at times, but not in August! Not yet, there´s still time for a lot of summer stuff! And yes, strawberry cakes [Erdbeerboden] mmmh and all that goes with it! I hope it´ll go back to some warmth for you before the official start of fall!! Thank you for the visit!

Enjoying the here and now is always good thing, but I must admit I’m so over Winter and can’t wait for Spring to arrive here in South Africa. And it’s around the corner. Our jasmine has started flowering and all the deciduous trees have tiny little buds on them, which makes my heart sooooo happy . Enjoy your Summer break Katrin and I’ll pop by on Monday to see what you’ve been up too 😉

Oh I know you don´t like winter and are waiting for the warm weather! I can imagine and I am usually like that, especially when it comes to the end of a season or close. I just want to go against the main stream of having to look at fall decor at the end of July… I don´t know, something felt wrong about it… and next week we can probably get chocolate santa´s at the groceries already 😉 you know what i mean??
