Easy Mirror Makeover [kreativk.net] 7

My lovely friend sent me a message the other day with a photo of this mirror, asking if I wanted it, as her neighbour was going to throw it out! I dropped everything and dashed over to her house!! I thought, that it was so sweet that she thought of me and how I like this kinda stuff!

Let me tell ya, this thing is SO heavy and I really didn’t know where I was going to hang it, cause it’s also huge!

It needed a good cleaning, sure, but then what? I REALLY didn’t feel like sanding, cause friends, it’s still SO hot here in the South of Spain, the wind wouldn’t stop blowing like crazy and there was no way I was going to sand this baby down.

So, if you followed along for a bit here, you know that I took the easy way out…..I whipped out my chalky finish paint and got going painting it inside with the a/c on high! Another reason I love that paint is that it doesn’t smell! And you don’t need to sand before.

I distressed a bit here and there. I took apart the light fixtures on both sides and cleaned them as well and then put them back on, but without the lightbulb and the shade.

I had two little jars in my jar collection that fit RIGHT on top of the light fixtures, so I glued them on with hot glue. I tried, putting fairy lights inside them,  but I didn’t end up loving that idea, the fairy lights were too big I think.

It might look great with smaller ones. I will have get some and try some other time for sure! For now, I put faux grass and leaves inside the little jars and I think for fall I’ll be putting little candles in them maybe…or acorns…or dried leaves…oh…the possibilities!

I didn’t do anything to the holders, except for a good cleaning… A bit of patina won’t hurt, right??

My girls were hanging out on that sofa while I was taking the photos: “Girls get up and make the pillows look pretty, Momy needs to take a photo without you in it…” Lol. Blogging life!

My plan is, to put some more time into this lovely mirror, eventually, when the weather is a bit cooler, and maybe even hang it up somewhere and update the light fixtures the right way. Right now I don’t have a lot of room for it, but I leaned it against my ugly fireplace and it actually looks pretty good there!

You’ve probably noticed,  I’m not a paint pro, I mean, I love it, but I don’t know much about it! I only recently discovered chalky finish paint and am a huge fan. There’s much more to painting furniture though, or even walls, than whipping some paint on and start brushing.

A friend of mine, Betsy, from Happily Ever After Etc. is lauchning her new E-book Inside The Paint Can today!! If you’re like me, love a fun paint job but don’t know a whole lot about it, you’ll want Betsy’s guide, where you’ll find all the tips and tricks you’ll need, like the difference between each paint sheen and how to pick the right brush and and and so much more! There is an Advanced Package for those of you who know some, but can still use some great advice! Go check it out for yourself!!!

You can purchase the Starter Package and Advanced Package by clicking the link below!!

Chalk paint is one of my favorite things. We recently painted our dining room table with it and I love it! This mirror turned out great….a great transformation. Your post is a feature tomorrow at Welcome Home Wednesdays! Congrats! Thanks for sharing.

Katrin, I love what you did with the mirror. I’ve been painting with chalk paint for a few years now and I love it. I think leaving the mirror on the floor is kind of cool and the plants in the glass jars is a great idea. Thanks for sharing at Your Inspired Designs

Katrin, this looks amazing! I love how simple you made it too. No sanding = my kind of paint job. That chalky paint really does a fabulous job. And I love what you did with the jars on either side. That is such a fun idea to fill them with seasonal things. Love it! <3

Katrin, now you don’t need to look for things on the dumpster, you have friends who will bring them to you!! So sweet of your friend to ask you if you wanted the mirror.
It looks so nice in white, and the handles are just too cute. I can imagine some candles inside too
