The easiest & cheapest DIY cake stand ever

I’m so happy you stopped by today, cause I’ve got something so so simple but lovely for you! And I’m convinced that this must be the easiest & cheapest DIY cake stand ever that I’m about to show you! Seriously!

There are tons and tons of cake stand DIY’s out there and I love them all. So it has been on my “want-to-do-list” for a long while now and the week I had off, I got a lot on that long list marked off! Such a big relief! Most of the chores on it were “have-to-do’s” and not so much fun like this one, but I feel really happy, that I was able to get a lot off my mind. Why do I let that list get so long in the first place! No idea.

The easiest & cheapest DIY cake stand ever

What I’ve used:

~ small terracotta pot

~ wooden plate

~ hot glue gun

~ paint

When I say easiest, I mean it! Like a little bit of painting and half a minute of hot glue gun gluing isn’t the easiest! See?

And when I say cheapest, I mean cheapest cheapest! The little terracotta pot cost me 0.40 Euro Cents. I find these at a local garden center and they sell them in all sizes. I’m pretty sure you’ll find them at your local Dollar store and even for a dollar it’s still pretty cheap!

The wooden plate is from our local Euro store and costs 1.50 Euros! They sell them in all sizes, I usually buy the small ones and use them for coasters, you can read more about that here.

I used chalky finish paint which I had at home already, you could also just use acrylic paint.

This little terracotta pot is from last summer and I decided to re-use it for this cake stand. It was painted light blue and now I decided to give it some brushes of white chalky finish paint, but still let the blue shine through.

The wooden plate got two coats of chalky finish paint and I did not distress this time. I decided to leave it all white. Don’t you think the distressed pot as the base looks great paired with the plain white top?

Cute and fresh little cake stand. You can use different sized pots to have different heights as well. Love the blue for summer as well

This cake stand looks so sweet – wouldn’t last long here though (Miss Moneypenny is still a bit wild).

Awesome idea! Love how affordable it is and you can make it fit your style. I already own too many cake stands to be buying another one, but making one is another story, ha! And, of course, you don’t need to limit its use to only hosting cakes 😉

That’s poifect Katrin. I never have cake stands at home, probably because I wouldn’t have a clue how to make a cake 😉 but I do have lots of terracotta pots. This will be perfect for when someone brings a cake or even a pudding to a braai. I can just slip into the workshop and make a quick cake stand. Love it!! My friends are going to be soooo impressed.

Great idea Katrin! I don’t have a cake stand yet, but this could be the solution. Love the rustic white. Maybe a slightly slimmer, already white, cheap vase would also work 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration!

Katrin what a cute idea. The blue on white color is so pretty and bright! I have one cake stand which looks like it should belong to my grandmother. I may get inspired and paint over it! Ha.
