DIY stenciled place mats

On Fridays I have 1 1/2 hours off during my work day…so usually I go for a stroll through a nearby shopping area and it happens to be where our Ikea is at, so I stop there too, haha. Does one ever leave an Ikea empty handed? I thought so….! and feel much better, because last Friday I found this pack of 4 cork placemats and they ended up in my favourite yellow shopping bag! And that’s when I thought of making these DIY stenciled place mats!

DIY Stenciled Place Mats

Just like with my stenciled wall decor from the other day, I used my Lotta Jansdotter stencils for these place mats as well. They come in a variety of designs, you can find the ones I used here

I picked two of them, because I wanted to make two different sets to mix and match. As you can see they are well used… My friend Keri has a great collection of stencils in her shop and also on her blog [Repurposing Junkie] and she recently came up with this fabulous way of keeping hers organized! See more here.

Really great project Katrin; I love the look of the white paint against the jute/cork and your patterns are just perfect for the natural look. Thanks so much for linking up your projects with us at Vintage Charm!

Ikea certainly suits the style of your home. I like it with the upgrade you give to the pieces. These placemats are really nice. Modern and fresh, love the leaf motif. I use to stencil a long tme ago but got tired of it and unfortunately threw all my unused stencils out. Sigh.

Have a great week Katrin. I enjoyed your post very much.

Hi Katrin: This is a really cute idea. Years ago I had quite the stencil collection, quit doing it and tossed them out. Now I want to grab some stencils again. Love this leaf motif very much its modern and crisp and fresh looking.

Love these! Such a great idea! Haha, I never leave Ikea empty handed either! We actually got some cork trivets last time we were in there and now I’m going to have to stencil them and make them cute! 🙂

You have to Keri, it’s my feel good place, lol! I might have an addiction…just a bit. My stencil collection is nothing compared to yours and I really didn’t take good care of them… if not I’d have them all hanging & showing like yours!!

That’s such a super idea Katrin. It’s amazing how stencils and a bit of paint can change the look from boring to “Oh WoW!!” and this is definitely the case with your place mats

So so cute Katrin! And full of personality. I love the wobbly circles they remind me of pebbles from the beach. So much more fun than just a plain place mat.

Great job with those placemats – makes them very unique!
