Beach Cottage Signs For The Entrance

Ever since I discovered a weekly flea market by the sea here in the town where we live, I am totally addicted to hunting for little treasures. I had no idea about that flea market and so Sunday mornings turned into market mornings. And so far I found fun stuff that got my creative juices flowing! I have not shared much about the finds on the blog yet, and I have to say most stuff only needs a little paint or so. Like these wooden pictures I found last week. I got them for 2 Euros the pair. And they were turned into beach cottage signs for the entrance.

I took them home and started painting right away. Here is one before photo that also shows the lantern I found that you saw spray painted in my last post showing my front porch. I did not take any photos of the painting and decoupage technique, I originally didn’t think I’d post about it. But then I changed my mind and well, no photos, but I’ll try to explain it as best as possible.

The before:

These were cute wooden pictures, just not what fits in with my decor, so I changed them up real quick! The frames are wood and the center is a painted wooden canvas panel.

What I used:

Wooden canvas or pictures from thrift stores/yard sales or flea market

White chalky finish paint

Prints to decoupage

Mod Podge

Paint Brush

Using very little paint, I brushed the chalky finish paint roughly onto the wooden panel and frames. No need to take it apart, I just brushed it on leaving strokes visible and not covering everything. I needed about 2-3 coats to cover the painted part, although it is not fully covered as I like the washed, distressed look.

While the pictures were drying in the sun, I designed my words on picmonkey  and then printed them out.

For the decoupage technique find important and detailed info in this post.

This is how they ended up looking:

I have to say my entrance looks a lot like summer already and those signs will stay here all summer long. I really like the soft and simple look of them. Well, I hope you like them too and maybe you find similar ones to make over!

Thank you for stopping by today, wishing you a lovely day!

Katrin I love the texture on these signs. It almost looks like you blew sand onto the images. Very well done.
