Welcome to this months edition of Int’l Bloggers Club! It’s the end of August and that means back to school for many! I know that for many the school routine has already begun, and you’re back to getting up early, homework and all that! For my kids here in Spain, the first day of school will be the 7th of September and that’s because they are going to a private, bilingual all day school. Other public schools start on the 12th here. Summers are long, from the End of June until the middle of September almost, but we do have less days off during the school year.
So, in time for that, I’m showing you our back to school desk makeover for Int’l Bloggers Club!
In case you missed last months post, find it here.

This summer it was time to update a few things in my older daughters bedroom. We bought her a new bed and changed up things a little, so her Ikea desk didn’t look too nice with the rest of the room anymore. I had spent quite a bit on the new bed and mattress and all that and didn’t think of throwing out her, except for the colour, perfectly fine working desk.
This is how the Ikea desk looked like before. It’s a cheap pressed wood kinda desk, but otherwise stable and in good shape still. It comes with a matching shelf, which will also be painted soon!
We decided to paint it white, to match her new white bed and to be able to add pops of colour and not have it too busy.
So we took the table apart, which wasn’t a big deal, it’s three pieces basically and the girls [Amelie really wanted to help out her sis] sanded the parts a little bit, and then I sprayed on the primer. When all of that was dry I spray painted the pieces white on both sides. I used golden spray paint for the drawer. All dried really quickly, cause it was sooo hot here and I tried to get it done in the mornings, as those are cooler and I have more shade in my backyard.
Anyways, it was super windy here all week long, but I really wanted to get this project done and not wait another week. Yeah. Don’t spray paint when it’s windy. But you probably wouldn’t, it’s just me, I’m this crazy lady that has to get her stuff done when planned, doesn’t matter how. That’s why I ended up with white eyelashes and eyebrows at one point, cause the wind had turned, while I was spraying… and you can imagine… Everyone had a good laugh!
I’d definitely recommend using spray paint for this kind of dresser, it is so quick and convenient and my daugher didn’t want the distressed look and all that, so spray paint is perfect!
While we were at it, we also spray painted her bulletin board white and then taped off parts of it and added stripes with golden spray paint. Sorry, there aren’t any photos of how we updated the bulletin board, because I took them outside in the shade and they all came out really dark 🙁

We added some fun decor to her desk and she’s super happy with how it turned out!
I’m sure you’ve noticed the wall decals?? Aren’t they so so pretty? I found them over at Walls Need Love and I love how well they go with the whole girls room style! You can find them in a variety of colours too.
I hope you like our easy back to school desk makeover for Int’l Bloggers Club this month! It was fun and makes such a huge difference in my daughters bedroom now. With a little bit of spray paint and some fun accesories we could really give the whole room a new look! I’ll be sharing the rest of the room another time, first I still want to spray paint the matching shelf as well! Will keep you updated!
Make sure to hop over to my fellow blogger friends Mary, Keri & Pili and see what they came up with for back to school time this month! I know you won’t be dissapointed!
