5 Minute Repurpose: Ikea Skubb Box Planter

Organizing is my life! I don´t know what it is, but it just makes me feel so good! It´s this feeling of being on top of things, being able to find stuff quickly, feeling relieved of tossing unused stuff out, feeling light, not cramped, having an overview of it all…. I guess it´s all of that and more.

So I organize a lot, often and in many spaces. Closets, cupboards, storage room, even inside the boxes I have a system going on. You can call me nuts. I don´t mind. I´m happy when I organize something. So naturally I have a thing for storage boxes and organizers as well. They come in such pretty styles and I love them all! Leading me to today´s post. A 5 minute repurpose of Ikea´s Skubb Box Organizer!

5 Minute Repurpose: Ikea Skubb Box Planter

I found two of the small ones of this set in white at the clearance section at Ikea for 50cents each. But I would have bought the whole set at the normal price as well. They are so awesome for closets and drawers, no need to go into details, you get it.

The fun thing is, that you can collapse them simply by undoing the zipper when not in use, for easy storage, lol! Love it! Even though I did not have a spot for them in mind, I took them home, because that price tag makes organizing even more exciting.

At home I realized, that I forgot to buy planters for the faux green plants I also got at the same time. When I eagerly zipped up the boxes to put them in my closet, I looked at the greens and then at the boxes and then again and I knew that this time I wasn´t going to organize anything. But the planter problem was solved! I just needed to make them a little bit more interesting.

This is what I quickly whipped up in like 5 minutes using grey twine. So all I did here was twist two strings and tie them around the box x3 for each box. No glue, just that. In 5 minutes. And I like the box even better. These two will go on our night tables I think.

Yes, that´s all. I didn´t want to add too much stuff to it either, I like it simple and plain, you know. I think the 5 minutes were worth this little repurpose, don´t you?

Katrin, I love the clean white look of these, and the fact that they zip/unzip to lie flat. That would sell me on them immediately, and the price? Wow, I thought you only saw those kind of prices at yard sales!
I do love the addition of the twine on the sides…just gives them a bit of interest I think. Cool quick repurpose!

They look amazing. It is a fantastic idea and when you are tired of them as a planter back to an organizer. I love the idea of the dual purpose.

These will be really cute for when your organizing anything outside of a drawer. I have a few sets of these and love each one. They even manage to keep Hubs drawers organized, but I never put them out where you can see them. Great little craft.

Now, this is a planter worthy of the noble succulents! I have to admit that I had no clue as to what a skubb box could possibly be. What a clever little idea, a zipper to open and close this adorable box. The grey twine is perfect with the white box and green plants. You are the most kreative person, I see a useful box and you see other possibilities! You are amazing! Thank-you for this post, as always!

Katrin these look so much nicer now with the grey twine. Before they were faceless but now they have a fun personality. Great upcycle and I really like how easy it was.

I would love to know your secret Katrin. I have never met anyone who can take to plain old white storage boxes, wrap some twine around them and then poof it looks like something straight out of a magazine. How do you do it?

I love the Ikea Skubb box makeover. So simple, pretty, and refreshing. Tying the twine around them was all that was needed. I’ve noticed how you use a lot of white with some pops of color. Everything looks so crisp, and refreshing. I wish that I could use more white, but I’m afraid that wouldn’t work at our house. I have two kitties, and a hubby that would probably make sure it doesn’t stay white long. Lol

Thank you so much Linda! Yes, lot´s of whites here, but also lots of cleaning, lol.
