Repurposed Deer Advent Calendar

Repurposed Deer Advent Calendar

This little guy has been stored with my x~mas decorations for a few years now. I haven’t really put him up for a long time and when I got all crazy the other day with the deco around here I found him in between the boxes of ornaments and garlands and he just looked so cute. But I knew I didn’t really have a spot for him. How cruel. See, he used to be an advent calendar. But there were pieces missing and so I had just neglected him for a few years now. So sorry. And when he looked at me through the boxes the other day I just couldn’t leave him in there. So I gave this little buddy a redo. He became my Repurposed Deer Advent Calendar.

So this is how he looked before. Not bad at all. Maybe some of you think he even looked better before than after. He had 24 little drawers but many were missing. I took him apart. I know…but better than throwing him out, right? Or leaving him in the box, unwanted.

I carefully separated the head from the box. Then, I painted the box white on the back.

I painted his head white first and then replaced the little hooks in his antlers that were missing. I used some from the drawers, since I any way wouldn’t need them any more.

Then, I brushed on silver acrylic paint, several coats of it. I painted the eyes and his mouth with markers and when everything was dry, attached the head back to the bottom (box) but this time the box was turned around.

I wrote ” Oh, Deer !” on the box (with metallic markers as well 😉 ) and hung stars on the one antler! I think he’s adorable! He fits in right with all my deco and got the best spot in the house! On top of my cabinet where he’s the centre of attention!

You did a great job! This is such a cute upcycled DIY. The finished product is so adorable, I giggled out loud when I saw the phrase written on it. The colors are fantastic and I want to go make one now!
