Mirror Makeover Update

Last September [oh goodness, has it been that long already?!] I showed you this mirror  makeover. My friend got it for me and at the time it looked like this:

I knew right away, that I was going to paint it white and distress it. And get rid of those awful lamp shades and bulbs. I decided back then, to glue jars onto where the lamp shades were before.

Well, the little jars did not work at all. They were glued on, but everytime we’d touch them, they’d come off. So, after having to clean up scattered glass all over the floor more than two times that was that!

It was leaning against my ugly fireplace for most of the time without anything on top of these lovely light holders. I wasn’t happy with how it looked and also that I didn’t have the time to really give this lovely mirror a deserved lift.

Then, when I started decorating my home for the summer, you know, a little beach style a little boho, a little farmhouse vibe, all together it hit me! Well. Not that it was a super light bulb moment. But I just thought, what if I painted the original shades with white chalky paint? Thankfully I still had them stored!

That’s what I did and I even still had the srews and rest to mount those shades safely onto the holders without having to worry about them falling off!

This is what it looks right now and I must say I’m quite happy with it:

So, for now this is how my mirror looks like. I really think the lamp shades look so lovely, I don’t know why I couldn’t see that last year. Well, I’m glad I didn’t throw them out! And the power of a little chalky paint, hey? I don’t want to put anything inside them right now, just leave them like this…. maybe I’ll get another idea in a year or so 😉

Nice refresh Katrin. Your just proving that its okay to keep stuff “just in case”. It looks good now and the chalk paint modernized it. I love that the mirror came with lights, that’s a special little feature.

Oh I remember your mirror Katrin, where does the time go hey? Now that you’ve painted the shade white they suit the whole look so much better and knowing how creative you are I’m sure we’ll see it more often draped with lovely flowers or fairy lights

Yay! I’m glad you kept them too. They look really nice and the white paint changes everything. Maybe you can add some tea lights in them for the evening?
