People here know by now, I love to DIY and decorate! They are always on the supply~lookout for me, which is so nice and I’m so thankful! The other day, one of my friends called me super excited to tell me, she could get me 4 pallets for free! Wow! Yay, was I happy πŸ™‚ My husband came and helped me get them home, because these are some super big real heavy duty pallets, not like the one I put on my create station.Β

So, I got 4 of these babies, and I’m super excited! Who wouldn’t be!? And, yesterday morning was finally the time to get started with them. Well, with one of them. For a while now, I’ve been wanting to do something about our front entrance. We take off our shoes, and although I have a shoe cabinet inside, there are always shoes piled up in front of our door = messy! Β

Well, not anymore! I used one of these pallets as a shoe rack for outside. Instead of having all those shoes lying around and looking so messy, they can be now just put in that pallet. It’s really not a big deal, to just put them there, and the whole entrance area looks a lot tidier!Β

Best of all, I spent zero dollars and zero euros and didn’t need any power tools we don’t even have…

I painted the “inside” of the pallet with white paint I still had from previous projects. Just roughly and only the outer parts. It soaked in really quick, and the sun did the rest. So, within about half an hour, this was done and ready, to be put against the wall, next to my front door. The spot was almost meant for this it seams. I stencilled “Shoes” on it and put my succulents inside the top. They are just kinda hanging in there, the pots fit right in. I’m not sure, if you remember, that I made a pallet plant standΒ once for these succulents. Well, that pallet is the one now turned around on my deskΒ .

And now I still have three more pallets! I think, will use them for outside, because our front patio really needs something extra…but more about that another time! Thanks for reading!

  3. LOOOOVE this! I have those cookie sheets filled with rocks from the craft store for wet boots near my front door, but this is great! I have a place near where I live that always has stacks of pallets with a “free wood” sign, which I drool over..but have no way to get one home πŸ™ I think it’s time to recruit some friends! I also think I’ll add baskets to the top rather than succulents, for mail and keys and stuff.

    • Thanks Megan! I’m happy you like this as much as I do! It is very very functional and has really improved the look of our entryway! I love your idea of adding baskets to the top for mail and keys and such! I rather have the plants, since it’s outside, but if I had it inside I’d totally copy your idea!!! πŸ™‚

  4. Brilliant! So simple but adorable! I hate the look of standard shoes racks–this is so much better!

Thanks so much for joining us on The Alder Collective! Pinning, and hope to see you again next week!

  5. So unique AND functional, Katrin. I love your styling with the succulents πŸ™‚ Thanks so much for sharing your project with us at Vintage Charm!

  6. This is by far one of the coolest pallet projects I’ve seen! I’m featuring this projects over at the Creative Corner this week. Thanks for sharing with us!

    • Yes, Nikki, pallets are out there and there are so many things to do with them. When I came up with this idea, I actually thought it was probably gonna end up on the “most~boring~pallet~project” list, because there isn’t much to it and it’s done in an hour or so. But girl, was I wrong! And it really is a great solution for us!

  7. I’ve seen pallets used for a lot of things, but not for this! Love this storage solution. Thanks for sharing at The Creative Corner. Hope to see you again Sunday night!

    • Hi Becky! Thanks so much, it’s actually a great solution for us, my entrance looks way better πŸ™‚

  8. Wow! That is very creative and it really does look very nice! I love the white paint and the letters! I even love the plants at the top! I never would have thought to use a pallet in this way but I really like this idea. My apartment is too small for one so I bought a couple of shelves to hold the shoes in. LOL! Thanks so much for linking up with #manicmonday

    • You know, it has changed our front entrance (outside) so much, I’m really glad all the shoes are out of the way! Thanks so much Michelle!

    • Thanks so much for your sweet comment Celeste! It was so so easy and did change my entrance completely!

  9. I would like to know how all the comments are in the future?
I like it for the plant idea. I like to grow my own stuff and this gave me additional ideas for a pallet that has been on my front porch for oh maybe 4 months. I keep changing my mind about what to do with it as there are so many suggestions out there.

    • Yes, that’s a great idea as well, to use it for plants. I have three pallets left and am thinking of using one or two outside to put plants inside! Thanks for visiting!

    • Thank you Linda, I’m happy you like it!!!It is pretty functional and yes, there are so many pallet projects out there, I’m just not a fan of power tools and a huge project, but that’s just me…there are wonderful things you can do with them!

    • Oh wow, I can imagine Jamie! this keeps the shoes out of the way, but you would probably need two πŸ˜‰ Thanks for stopping by!!!

  10. I love this idea; we currently are using a dog food plastic mat to house some of our shoes. This would look great in our 3 season porch. I’ll have to hound the shipping people at work for one of these.

    • Yes, absolutely! I can see this being great in a covered porch. My entry is covered as well, it wouldn’t get wet….and it doesn’t rain here as much anyways. Thanks so much Candace! πŸ™‚

  11. Katrin, this is so cute and I can see so many other ways this could be used.

  12. Thanks so much for the sweet comment on the blog! I love your blog! It’s full of creative ideas like this shoe rack!

    Happy day friend!

    • Hi Ilka! Yep, super good spot for all those shoes! I’m happy it fits right there and it looks so tidy now… Thanks friend πŸ™‚

  13. Katrin, what a creative way to store shoes!! Love the organization it creates and it looks fantastic!! I like that you were also able to put the plants on top!! It looks awesome sauce!! Definitely loving that price tag too!! πŸ˜‰

    • Hi there my friend! Yes, the price tag is lovely! I really love that the entrance looks pulled together and not like a mad families place…although we might be a little mad…:) but just a little….haha. Thanks for stopping by Keri!!

  14. Hi Katrin,
I found you through Mary at The Boondocks Blog and popped by to say hello!
I love what you did with this pallet, what an amazing idea!
I can’t wait to see what you do with the other ones!

    • Hi Kimberley, I’m so happy you found me πŸ™‚ Mary is a good friend πŸ™‚ and thank you for stopping by! The pallet is great for that spot and I’m glad it doesn’t look messy anymore!!!

    • Hahaha, yes Pili, absolutely music to my ears as well!!! And you’re so right, the shoes get air, which is great! Thanks friend!!!

  15. Katrin, that is just perfect. It demands to be called ‘kismet’, that pallet was meant to be claimed by you and turned into a shoe rack and it was sheer kismet that it fits so perfectly. It’s the perfect length and width! And good on you for thinking ‘shoe rack’! I’m always at a bit of a loss when faced with a pallet, in fact we gave away three lovely ones last year as I couldn’t quite figure out what to do. Wish I had held on to them a wee bit longer.

    Well done!

    Hugs, Lynn

    p.s. 6 days to WD!

    • It was sheer kismet, you’re right Lynn!!! I wanted something where I didn’t have to go run and buy or borrow power tools, as we do not own any…as unbelievable as it sounds. but yes, no handy man or woman around here lol! Just a computer freak and a kreativ K. So this was easy enough! Thanks πŸ™‚ ….wow, 6 days to go, can’t wait!!!!

    • Hi Mary! Yes, I’m happy to not have all those shoes right in front of the door, infact I still have them but yes, way more tidy!!! Thanks πŸ™‚
